Dave's Old Photos

In my teens, I played the trumpet at school and in the Swindon Young Musician's Band, and the bugle in the Boy's Brigade band (2nd Swindon Company). I was the solo bugler (got me a nice silver bugle I did!). Here's the only known photo of me playing in the band (I guess this was my first ever band!). We're marching down the High Street in a little town called Wooten Bassett near Swindon, England, waking up all the locals early on a Sunday morning. I apologize to all those people who I rudely awakened in those days - it was most unthinking of me! I'm the chap in the last row on the RHS of the picture. You can also make out my twin brother John on the big bass drum in the center.

Here's another picture of me blasting the bugle at summer camp (near Swanage in Somerset I think), in 1973. I'm the fella in the front there, coming at the cameraman.

Here's the only known picture of my very first analogue synthesizer. It was designed and built by entirely by me in 1976 during my "spare time" during my first year at Southampton University in England. I called it the "Stereo Sound Synthesizer Mk. 1". If you look closely, you can see this name in white legend on the bottom left hand corner of the front panel. Click on any of the pictures to see them in full resolution (warning, some are nearly 5MB!). This synthesizer provided many hours of fun and enjoyment and was responsible for some of the sound effects heard on "Radio Heffalump" at the Glen Eyre Hall of Residence in 1976:

After college, in 1979, I went to work in the Sultanate of Oman for a couple of years. While there, in our spare time, we formed a small band (who's name I can't for the life of me remember!) to play Eagles, Beatles and other pop stuff for fun. We actually made a few appearances at Christmas Talent Concerts and never got boo-ed once!! Here is the only known picture of us (minus the lead singer who was on work shift at the time), taken sometime in 1981. From the left Pete (guitar), Pete (drums), Dave The Rave - me (electric piano). I was a bit thinner and nicely tanned in those days!

As I unearth more music related photos, I'll scan them and put them up for your enjoyment. Cheers for now!
